PRINCIPAL LEGAL OFFICER
Our client in the banking and financial services sector, is on the lookout for an experienced Principal Legal Officer to lead its legal function. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a high-impact role responsible for strategic legal advisory, regulatory compliance, risk management and protecting the institution’s interest.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide legal advice to the CEO, executive team, and business units on a wide range of matters
- Lead the review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts to safeguard the Bank’s legal and commercial interests
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements
- Identify, assess, and manage legal risks, advising on appropriate mitigation strategies
- Oversee litigation and dispute resolution, representing the Bank where necessary
- Lead and develop the in-house legal team, promoting a culture of excellence and integrity
- Advise on policy formulation to ensure legal compliance and effective governance
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and represent the Bank in relevant legal forums
- Job Requirements:
Key requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in law from a recognized institution
- Admission to the Bar and current membership with the PNG Law Society
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.
- In-depth knowledge of development finance and international banking laws.
- Proven track record in legal advisory, contract management, and compliance.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
