Purpose of the Position:

The Deputy Secretary is responsible for managing and overseeing the operations of the Corporate Services units and supporting the Secretary and management team. Applicants should address all job specifications
and criteria.


Responsibilities:
 
  1. Ensure work processes and systems within Corporate Services meet agreed standards and contribute to the corporate plan’s goals.
  2. Establish and oversee processes for monitoring and evaluating corporate activity plans.
  3. Monitor and assess the implementation of the corporate plan within set timeframes.
  4. Negotiate supplier contracts to secure competitive rates for the NJSS.
  5. Investigate staff disciplinary cases and prepare submissions for the Secretary’s decision.
  6. Initiate and manage disciplinary cases in the best interest of NJSS.
  7.  Prepare the annual budget and plan for presentation to the Judicial Council.
  8. Supervise and manage the activities of various units/divisions.
  9. Represent the NJSS in high-level meetings and intergovernmental forums as delegated by the Secretary.
  10. Demonstrate leadership and maintain high-performance standards to ensure the achievement of key accountabilities.
Job Requirements:


Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Interested Applicants must possess the following:

 
  • Certified lawyer qualified to practice in PNG or possess a tertiary qualification in Business or Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the Public Financial Management Act, Public Service General Orders, and the NJSS Act.
  • At least 7–10 years of senior management experience, preferably within the law and justice sector or a large public sector organization.
