Tax and Compliance Manager

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this position will lead, monitor, review and vet all taxation reporting for KPHL and provide advice on tax compliance across all company operations. The incumbent is responsible for providing oversight of all company tax compliance indicators, ensuring that KPHL meets all its tax and compliance obligations, in accordance with the PNG Income Tax Act, Tax Credit Scheme, and other applicable regulations in the petroleum sector.

The incumbent will lead a team, ensuring that KPHL HSE Policy and Standards are maintained, provide growth opportunities for all direct reports and proactively manage staff performance against key deliverables, in line with company policies.

Key Duties:
 
  • Primarily responsible for tax accounting for all business functions and projects for KPHL and Group.
  • Engagement with internal stakeholders, external tax advisors, IRC and relevant statutory bodies, to keep updated on statutory requirements;
  • Process annual company tax returns for KPHL and Group, ensuring they are accurate and lodged on time and manage related remittances;
  • Provide taxation advice at all business levels including internal KPHL tax audit plans, existing and ongoing projects in a joint venture operations environment and Tax Credit Scheme projects.
  • Develop work flow processes to accurately capture tax compliance indicators and effectively monitor compliance;
  • Assist in financial planning, cash flow appraisal and financial risk of capital investment projects from a tax compliance perspective;
  • Lead, direct, mentor and coach direct reports, through on-the-job training opportunities, & external technical training programs as required.
Job Requirements:


Education / Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline;
  • CPA PNG qualified or equivalent;

Skills and Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in tax accounting and tax compliance analysis in the petroleum industry is essential;
  • Good working knowledge of PNG Tax Act and relevant international tax knowledge and tax reporting is essential;
  • Advanced MS excel skills and experience in accounting systems, Oracle and/or, SAP and/or, Pronto is essential;
  • Previous experience in the petroleum industry or a professional services/project based environment would be an advantage;
  • Team player with strong communication skills, ability to engage with internal and
  • external stakeholders at all levels;
