POSITION VACANCY
 
General Manager – Risk & Compliance

Comrade Trustee Services Limited (CTSL), as Trustee for the Defence Force Retirement Benefit Fund (DFRBF), is seeking a highly skilled and driven individual to join the leadership team as General Manager – Risk & Compliance. This is a key senior management role responsible for overseeing and directing the company's risk management and compliance functions to ensure the highest standards of regulatory compliance and prudent risk management.

Responsibilities Summary

The General Manager – Risk & Compliance will be responsible for leading the company's risk management and compliance strategies, ensuring organizational objectives are met within a framework of regulatory compliance and risk mitigation. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership abilities, a solid understanding of risk management frameworks, and the ability to make informed decisions to protect the Fund's interests.

Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the role of the General Manager – Risk & Compliance is to:
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the enterprise-wide risk management framework, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead the compliance function to ensure adherence to regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Provide strategic advice to management and the board on risk and compliance matters.
  • Monitor and report on emerging risks, including operational, financial, and reputational risks.
  • Monitor risks and implement mitigation strategies within all operational divisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Risk & Compliance team, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and account - ability.
  • Foster a culture of compliance and risk awareness throughout the organization.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory changes that impact CTSL.
  • Commit to continuous improvement and innovation in risk management and compliance processes.
  • Ensure timely reporting of Risk & Compliance matters to the CEO and Board and ensure that all strategic plan activities are progressing according to schedule.

Qualification and Experience
The ideal candidate must at a minimum satisfy the following criteria:
The ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Compliance, Business, Law, or a related field. Postgraduate qualifications or certifications in Risk and Compliance (e.g., CRM, FRM) would be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a senior Risk & Compliance role, preferably within the financial services or superannuation sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, regulatory compliance, and industry standards.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear, strategic advice to senior management and the board.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in risk management software and tools, as well as MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of regulatory changes.
