DRAFTSMAN / ESTIMATOR
 
This role is Port Moresby based.
 
About your next role:
We are looking for an experienced Draftsman / Estimator to join our PEC team. The Draftsman / Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate HVAC system designs and cost estimates for various projects, including new installations, upgrades, and repairs. This role involves collaborating with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure all HVAC systems meet specifications, are cost-effective, and adhere to industry standards.

Your background and experience:
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to diversify their experience in a new environment. You are motivated, outcomes focused and a self-starter. Ideally you will have:
  • Create detailed HVAC system designs using AutoCAD or other relevant software.
  • Prepare layout drawings, schematics, and blueprints for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Update and revise designs based on project requirements and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Analyse project plans and specifications to prepare comprehensive cost estimates for HVAC systems.
  • Calculate material quantities, labour costs, and equipment needs.
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals and tender documents.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure alignment on project objectives and timelines.
  • Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and ensure timely procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Ensure all HVAC designs comply with relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on the latest HVAC technologies and best practices to ensure innovative and efficient system designs.
  • Maintain accurate records of all design documents, cost estimates, and project correspondences.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to GM Trade Services and project managers.
Job Requirements:
Applicants for this role must meet the following Essential requirements to be considered.
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting or a related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting software. 
  • Proven experience as a draftsman and estimator preferably the HVAC and construction industry.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Following attributes are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with HVAC design and estimation software.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations in Papua New Guinea.
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects.
