The Organisation WaterAid is an international NGO providing safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people. We help local organisations establish low cost, sustainable projects using technology that can be locally managed.
The Role The Senior Accountant is responsible to assist the Country Director in managing WaterAid PNG accounting and financial systems.
Provide a high level of advice to Senior Managers & Country Director on accounting issues
Ensure all month end procedures, including adjusting journals and general ledger reconciliations are undertaken accurately and on time by using Quickbooks
Maintain records of operating performance for comparison with estimated budget and monitor actual results against budget commitments
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual compliance reports within and external government statutory bodies mainly Internal Revenue Commission & Nasfund for staff wages/salaries and long term servings respectively
Liaise the internal audit and external audit for WaterAid PNG office
Administer the preparation and prompt dispatch of invoices and statements to ensure prompt payments, reconciliation and bank runs
Support Country Director develop country program annual budget and quarterly reforecast; review expenditure against budget. Support program team on grants management
In conjunction with the International Programs Accountant provide partners with the necessary financial and management information to assist them to meet or exceed their key performance indicators with funds spending and acquittals
Perform other duties as directed and necessary to the effective performance of the role and the country program
Person Specification and Key Selection Criteria
Degree qualified in commerce or accounting
Experience in using QuickBooks will be higly desirable
A Minimum of three years’ work experience, including accounting, financial reporting, provision of finance-related support and advice and capacity building activities with partners
Experience with government processes in Papua New Guinea and working with government and civil society organisations
Demonstrated experience in developing and/or improving accounting systems
Demonstrated experience in developing budgets and forecasts
Resilient and able to cope in a constantly changing workplaceinvirontment
An ability to adapt and focus in a busy working environtment
Excellent written and spoken English and highly developed communication skills including PNG Pijin translation
